by Courtney Visser and Sarah Shay

/

about

In collaboration with Courtney Visser (cbvmusic.bandcamp.com), a new take on the 19th-century American folk song. Released on Bandcamp's observation of Juneteenth 2022, with Bandcamp's share of sales going to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and 50% of my share going to the Africatown Land Trust (www.africatownlandtrust.org).

lyrics

I am a poor wayfaring stranger
Traveling through this world of woe
Yet there's no sickness, trial, nor danger
In that fair land to which I go

I'm going there to see my father
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm just a'going over Jordan
I'm just a'going over home

I know dark clouds are gonna gather around me
I know my way is dark and steep
But evergreen fields lie just before me
Where I'll redeem those sins I keep

I'm going there to see my mother
She said she'd meet me when I come
I'm just a'going over Jordan
I'm just a'going over home

I'm just a poor wayfaring stranger
I'm just a'going over home
