Solitaire (A Demo)

by Sarah Shay

/

about

A sad country song about accepting fate. Part of a series of demos representing my plans for an upcoming EP, which was planned for a July 2020 release and thwarted by the pandemic.

Fun Fact: That whistle solo will be pedal steel on the final recording. I wish y'all could hear how it sounds in my head; it's gonna be great.

lyrics

Playing solitaire with your voice in the air
All around me, oh why should it be
That’s the most of you I’ll ever have, but it’s true
That you’ll never be sitting here with me
I’ve got all of my kings waiting here in the wings
But I can’t make a move, it just goes to prove
When the cards don’t fall right, you can’t force it or fight
Just call it a day, and go along your way

And wait for the day when life deals a better hand
When you meet someone whose heart you can understand
You might feel like a diamond in the rough
We all do, so come join the club
Your ace is enough

I’m walking around with my feet on the ground
Not up in the air, it hardly seems fair
That just a week ago it all seemed so possible
That you might look my way, you might smile and say
That you’ve been thinking of me and wondering if I was free
Just to take a walk, just to sit and talk
But all those dreams are just dreams
And I’m still here with my queens
Waiting for the right time
When all the cards fall line

He might seem like the answer to all
But the bigger your heart, the harder you’ll fall
When you’ve given up throwing yourself at the same wall
You better pick yourself up from the ground
